Tyson Banker has 12 and a half years of teaching experience, and spent five years playing football at the post-secondary level. He won a National Championship in 2004 with the Linfield Wildcat Football team and was an all-conference wide receiver in his senior year. Cool fact about Linfield – the football team currently has 64 consecutive winning seasons, which is an NCAA record across all divisions still going.
Tyson also found time to work with Upward Bound for four years during his college career. Upward Bound is an organization that provides certain categories of high school students better opportunities for attending college.
Tyson also has coaching experience having coached football, basketball and track in Oregon and Kentucky, and coached football in Calgary as well.
“I really enjoy coaching and math hence my major and minor. I feel that teaching math is very similar to coaching in the sense you are teaching the technique to master concepts. Most of the time these concepts are mastered through repetition (practice) which parallels athletic coaching (always a passion of mine). That is why I enjoy being at Edge so much, my students respond well to my approach to teaching in the sense they are well accustomed to being coached,” Tyson says.
