BASKETBALL ACADEMY, NATIONAL and REGIONAL PREP TEAMS
Edge School is excited to announce the addition of a Basketball Academy, National Prep Team, Regional Prep Team and Female Regional Prep Team for the 2018-19 school year. Joining the seven existing sport academies, Edge School will now provide sport specific training for basketball student-athletes.
Similar to the Edge Hockey Academy, the Basketball Academy will consist of both a Team and Skill Academy. Students will follow an annual school development plan, complemented by multi-sport for Long Term Athletic Development (LTAD), physical education, off season and summer training.
Eddie Richardson will oversee the operations of the Academy as Basketball Director. A recipient of Avenue Calgary’s “Top 40 Under 40” distinction in the Class of 2017, Richardson brings with him over 20 years of coaching experience and is currently a lead instructor for the Canada Basketball/Basketball Alberta, Targeted Athlete Strategy program. Eddie has personally helped develop, train, and mentor players that have gone on to be U-Sport and CCAA All Stars, All-Canadians, Academic All-Canadians, Players of the Year, NCAA athletes, and European Semi-Pro Players.
Adam Huffman will be Head Coach of the National Prep Team. Huffman brings with him an impressive basketball resume. As a player, Huffman represented Alberta at the National Championships before playing for the University of Regina while completing a Bachelor’s Degree in Sport Administration. Huffman began coaching prior to finishing his Bachelor’s and has worked as an assistant with the University of Regina men’s program and as a Head Coach with the U15 and U17 programs within Basketball Saskatchewan. Most recently Huffman was invited to coach at camps held by Canada Basketball and Michigan State.
The Team component of the Basketball Academy will play in the NPA for the 2018-19 year - more information here. The NPA is comprised of 13 other character prep programs across the country. Each program has a high quality make up which includes 10-20 plus years in contributions to Canadian basketball, quality personnel, and a proven track record. League games and tournaments are played all over the country, providing student-athletes an opportunity to build long-lasting experiences, while gaining exposure to college and university coaches from coast to coast.
