Fulfilling Career Path in Nursing for Walcott

Caring for children at the Alberta’s Children’s Hospital is Ivana Walcott’s current passion and purpose. As a Licensed Practical Nurse, Ivana (class of 2009), cares for kids of all ages recovering from brain surgery, seizures, and kidney failure in the Neurology and Nephrology unit of the hospital.

The Edge alumna found her way to the school in Grade 9 through the dance community and connection to friend and fellow Edge alumna, Gillian Abbott. Ivana’s parents understood the value of the Edge vision and flexibility, and as a competitive dancer, Ivana exemplified the unique ways the school allowed student-athletes to shine. She quickly grew to love the Edge community of fellow dancers, classmates, and teachers who took the time to get to know her and help her excel academically.

Following graduation, Ivana continued dancing, but when she developed a blood clot in one of her lungs she knew it was time to consider other career paths. Her interest in human behavior drew her to psychology and marketing courses at Mount Royal University. Not quite finding the right fit after two years, she decided to pursue nursing on the recommendation of her parents.

Now on a fulfilling career path, Ivana is currently pursuing her Registered Nursing degree. She keeps connected to dance friends throughout the world, and still takes dance classes from time to time, soaking in the social aspect of dance that she’s always loved.
